Good Things Are Happening at Greenville Church!

GOOD THINGS ARE HAPPENING AT GREENVILLE CHURCH! Research shows most people
who start attending a church do so because a friend has personally invited them. Do you
have someone to invite? It’s easy. Just pick up one of our new church postcards from the
back of the sanctuary or church office to share! Hand one personally to a friend or
neighbor, or mail one out. The postcards offer a friendly amount of information about our
great congregation. Newcomers are always welcome at Greenville Church--a place for
everyone!

Sunday Flowers

You are invited to sponsor Sunday flowers that are placed under the cross in the sanctuary each Sunday. The sign-up schedule for 2013 is now open and posted in the narthex. The price is $35.00.

Cemetary Committee

Our church cemetery is located on Central Park Avenue and includes over 500 graves, some of which date back to the 1840’s. The cemetery does not have an endowment for upkeep and has been in decline for several years. Last year, a project was begun by one of our members to update the burial records, clarifying who is buried where, and determining which plots are unused. Next, volunteers are needed to trim trees, re-set stone markers and more.

A cemetery committee has been established to manage our church cemetery. Do you love history? Are you curious about genealogical research? Do you like to work outside? Speak to Pastor Edward for more information.

Hunger and the Feed One Program

Hunger, for most of us in the United States, is not a familiar feeling. Globally, however, it is not only a challenge but also a reality of life. Each day, approximately 18,000 children die from hunger-related problems. An estimated 925 million people in the world are hungry today. Feed One is our denomination’s program to get involved, to provide help for those who most need it – children. By providing food and resources, the Reformed Church in America is engaged in supporting and feeding those living with the reality of hunger. For only $53 you can feed one child for four months. For just $80 you can feed one child for six months. And it takes just $159 to feed one child for an entire year. Please consider a gift for Feed One. Write your check to Greenville Church and all contributions will be given entirely to Feed One.in.

Volunteers Needed for Coachman Family Services

Let's do more! Last Christmas we provided Payless Shoe gift cards (each worth $25) for 178 children and youth in need at the Coachman Family Services. Next we will visit on a weekday after school to make crafts with some of the children. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate. Let's make winter a little brighter for everyone! Contact Pastor Edward for more information.

Earth Sunday

April 21 is Earth Sunday: During the worship service we will celebrate God's creation and consider how to be excellent caretakers of our glorious home on earth.

Another Hike for our Churches

There will be another Hike for our Churches on Saturday, May 4th, as a fund raiser for Greenville Community Church organized by Gil Erskine. Hkers from our church (please consider being one!) contribute $80 and join a group that walks a 10 mile route along the Bronx River Parkway. Non-hikers are invited to make contributions in support of the hikers. All funds raised by our hikers remain within our chuch in support of our general fund.

Annual Progressive Dinner

Come to the Annual Progressive Dinner on Saturday, May 4, 2013! It is a great time of fellowship and a church event that everyone looks forward to. The church will really become your church as the people who are just a smile and a greeting on Sunday morning become real human beings with whom friendships form. Tickets are $20. Please call or email the church office to sign up.

  • Social Hour: 6:00 - 7:15 pm
  • Dinner: 7:30 - 9:00 pm
  • Dessert: 9:15 pm

Saturday, May 11: Afternoon at Croton Gorge Park

Let's spend an afternoon together at a lovely park for hiking and hanging out to eat and play games. There is something for everyone. For more information, talk to Pastor Edward.

Our Claryville Garden Project

Our Claryville Garden Project is coing up on June 1 - 2. Eat your energy food and build up your strength for a day of digging and planting! It will be fun and fills a vital need of providing fresh food for dozens of families n the Claryville area. Talk to Pastor Edward if you would like to participate.

A Tag Sale Is Set for Saturday, June 8, at the Greenville Church

Now’s the time to clean out your garage and basement in order to find items to donate! Thank you in advance for your contributions. Small appliances, dishes, jewelry, clothes, sporting good and more are welcome. It is also a good time to consider how you can participate. Would you like to be a cashier? Can you bake a layer cake for the dessert table? Contact the church office for more information.

Prayer Chain

The Prayer Chain is being updated with an email list in addition to the previous telephone list. Please contact the church office if you would like to participate in the prayer chain.

Confirmation Class

A new Confirmation Class began in September. At Greenville Church, conformation is a two-year program for students to explore the Christian faith through small group discussion, audio-visual media, reading the Bible, a retreat, and more. The Confirmation Class is also a chance for students to connect personally with God, each other, and the wider church. The program offers students a chance to give and receive in deeper ways than they have before. Additionally, confirmation is a centuries-old practice in the Christian tradition, whereby youth have an opportunity to learn about Christianity and make a decision for themselves.

Committee Meetings

Several Committee Meetings are usually held on the last Sunday of each month at 11:15. Everyone is invited to attend a meeting, even for only one session in order to participate in the organizational life of the church. The meetings are usually held in Hessler Hall.

The Food Pantry

The Food Pantry benefits from our support all year long. One of the biggest needs is for tuna. Why not bring a can of tuna to church next week?

The Blue Envelopes

Thank you for the Blue Envelopes! Each year, Greenville Community Church pays assessments to the Reformed Church in America (RCA). Our assessments support the local, regional and worldwide programs of the RCA. We are asked to pay $90 for each of our active church members. Blue envelopes may be used at any time. Thank you again to everyone who has contributed so far.

Bible Study Series

The Wednesday Bible study series: All are welcome. This is an opportunity to grow in faith and increase in joy. The sessions all begin at 8PM in the lounge when scheduled.

Bible Study classes offer an opportunity to explore faith through the Bible and other sources.

There are separate studies offered throughout the year on Wednesday evenings.

Knowledge of the Bible is not a necessity.

Helping participants learn more about the Bible and developing their faith is the intent of the classes.
