Things Are Happening at Greenville Church!
GOOD
THINGS ARE HAPPENING AT GREENVILLE CHURCH! Research shows most people
who start attending a church do so because a friend has personally
invited them. Do you
have someone to invite? It’s easy. Just pick up one of our
new church postcards from the
back of the sanctuary or church office to share! Hand one personally
to a friend or
neighbor, or mail one out. The postcards offer a friendly amount
of information about our
great congregation. Newcomers are always welcome at Greenville Church--a
place for
everyone!
Sunday
Flowers
You
are invited to sponsor Sunday flowers that are placed under the
cross in the sanctuary each Sunday. The sign-up schedule for 2013
is now open and posted in the narthex. The price is $35.00.
Cemetary Committee
Our
church cemetery is located on Central Park Avenue and includes
over 500 graves, some of which date back to the 1840’s. The
cemetery does not have an endowment for upkeep and has been in decline
for several years. Last year, a project was begun by one of our
members to update the burial records, clarifying who is buried where,
and determining which plots are unused. Next, volunteers are needed
to trim trees, re-set stone markers and more.
A
cemetery committee has been established to manage our church
cemetery. Do you love history? Are you curious about genealogical
research? Do you like to work outside? Speak to Pastor Edward for
more information.
Hunger
and the Feed One Program
Hunger,
for most of us in the United States, is not a familiar feeling.
Globally, however, it is not only a challenge but also a reality
of life. Each day, approximately 18,000 children die from hunger-related
problems. An estimated 925 million people in the world are hungry
today. Feed One is our denomination’s program to get involved,
to provide help for those who most need it – children. By
providing food and resources, the Reformed Church in America is
engaged in supporting and feeding those living with the reality
of hunger. For only $53 you can feed one child for four months.
For just $80 you can feed one child for six months. And it takes
just $159 to feed one child for an entire year. Please consider
a gift for Feed One. Write your check to Greenville Church and all
contributions will be given entirely to Feed One.in.
Volunteers
Needed for Coachman Family Services
Let's
do more! Last Christmas we provided Payless Shoe gift cards
(each worth $25) for 178 children and youth in need at the Coachman
Family Services. Next we will visit on a weekday after school to
make crafts with some of the children. Volunteers of all ages are
welcome to participate. Let's make winter a little brighter for
everyone! Contact Pastor Edward for more information.

Confirmation
Class
A
new Confirmation Class began in September. At Greenville
Church, conformation is a two-year program for students to explore
the Christian faith through small group discussion, audio-visual
media, reading the Bible, a retreat, and more. The Confirmation
Class is also a chance for students to connect personally with God,
each other, and the wider church. The program offers students a
chance to give and receive in deeper ways than they have before.
Additionally, confirmation is a centuries-old practice in the Christian
tradition, whereby youth have an opportunity to learn about Christianity
and make a decision for themselves.
Committee
Meetings
Several
Committee Meetings are usually held on the last Sunday
of each month at 11:15. Everyone is invited to attend a meeting,
even for only one session in order to participate in the organizational
